You’ve decided it’s time to invest in an access control solution for your organisation, but you are baffled by what’s out there and struggling to establish what the right solution is for your buildings. In this article we make it simple for you and give you all the options and common scenarios

Access control solutions can secure the entry to a number of types of door, in a number of ways, each with different benefits. Door types can include revolving doors, turnstiles, gates, barriers, lockers, and cabinets and these may be in one building or multiple buildings across multiple locations. This will influence which access solution will work best for you.

Wireless access control

This option is great a choice when you have a limited budget, a wireless system can be fitted to any number of doors at a much lower cost than a traditional wired system. With no need for expensive cabling, installation is much quicker and less disruptive. A wireless system uses radio frequency technology to compute in real-time with a central management system. Locks are intelligently programmed and instantly make access decisions based on user’s access rights. Highly secure and compatible with RFID technologies this is an ideal solution if your building is listed, has a lot of glass doors or you are retrofitting. SALTO Virtual Network

Using the SALTO Virtual Network you can enjoy many of the great features an online access control system can deliver but without it costing the earth. This is achieved by using a combination of online and offline doors

By using this combination of online/offline doors there is a lot less infrastructure work involved in getting this type of set-up installed, making it a much more cost effective solution with no loss of features.

The SALTO Virtual Network enables users to get “instructions” for the other doors on the network. So if a user has lost their card then a central hub will relay this information to a users RFID card and this will disallow this card from accessing any other doors.

The doors themselves can transmit information to the user’s cards, so a door with low power can transmit that information and once a user passes a main hub this information will then be relayed to the central system and someone can replace the batteries of that door.Find out more by clicking here
