Are you struggling to manage time and attendance?

Here at AIT, we’re really keen to ensure we listen to our customers and learn about the issues they come across in their working day. Once we understand our customers’ pain points, we can use our in-house development and integration teams to develop solutions to help overcome their issues.

This has been very much in evidence this summer, when a couple of colleges approached us to see if we could help them with a low cost solution for managing time and attendance to ensure they are compliant with The Education Funding Agency (EFA) Funding guidance for young people 2015 to 2016.

A requirement of the EFA is that colleges need to accurately record time students spend in a designated study area, failure to do so could affect funding to colleges.

The EFA guidelines state ‘There should be evidence that individual students were undertaking the specified study programme during the learning period for which funding and retention is being recorded’. The guidance notes go on to say ‘For students this will take the form of registers of attendance. Experience has shown these to be key legal records in supporting accuracy of data returns’

With this requirement in mind, one college physically had a member of their IT staff sit outside the learning zone with a register to ensure student attendance was recorded accurately. As we all know IT departments are busy at the best of times, without having a member of staff tied up marking students in and out all day.

At AIT we worked with one of the colleges to developed a low cost, accurate, attendance monitoring solution which utilises their existing ID cards and a card reader that uses a simple swipe in and out method, this records the student’s ID card number and arrival time.

A simple reporting option in the solution gives the college accurate evidence of student attendance.
